California
Fire Update. We have been very lucky as the
California fires go. At the Kaleidoscope Inn in Nipomo and at
the adjacent beach cities, we have not had any impacts from the
fires that are burning 2 hours north and 1 hour south of us. Details
below.
To the South: Goelita Fire
- The fire that is closest to the Kaleidoscope is the Gap Fire
(Golita), which is about 1 hour south of us. No smoke or ash present
in our area. This fire is pretty much contained at this point
and both Highway 101 and Highway 154 (the back road through the
mountains) are both open. If you are coming to see us from the
south, you can take either route.
To the North:
Big Sur Fire - This fire is about 2 hours north of
us, so we have not seen any smoke or ash in our area from it either.
Both Highway 101and Highway 1 are now completely open. So if you
are coming to see us from the Bay Area, you can take either route.

This area has so much to offer! We have wineries, day spas, hot
springs, horse riding, dunes, golfing (3 fabulous courses within
10 minutes of the Inn), sailing, kayaking, hiking, lakes, fishing,
street or mountain biking, antiques, missions (4 of them!), whale/butterfly/seal
watching, state parks, state beaches, a national forest, and miles
of scenic drives. We are near Arroyo Grande, Pismo Beach, Avila
Beach, San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Cayucos, Cambria,
and Santa Maria. As part of the personalized service offered by
our Bed and Breakfast, we make a point of knowing the area and
can offer many suggestions that may help to make this vacation
one to truly remember. For example, hiking on the point has recently
been opened to the public for the first time since the days of
the Missions; however, access is by reservation only. Let us know
your interest, and we can help you in your planning. We can recommend
local massage therapists or point you toward tempting local restaurants
(including famous Jockos Steak House,
